M-Powering Teachers Privacy Notice
M-Powering Teachers is an online platform developed by Stanford University’s Graduate School of Education to support research projects from within and outside Stanford University, by providing natural language processing capabilities.
Categories of Personal Information we process
M-Powering Teachers processes recording (audio and transcript files) of student-teacher interaction uploaded by the users of the tool, then analyzes these recordings using natural language processing for research purposes powered and provides insights to the user derived from classroom observations uploaded by the different users of the tool.
Under the Terms of Use of the platform, users are informed that they must obtain permission/consent from all those represented in the data to be processed by the platform (audio and transcript files). No other information about students or their interaction with teachers is requested or stored in M-Powering Teachers besides the audio/transcript data.
These audio and transcript files may include data from minors (i.e. what students said in a classroom) and in that case users of the tool are responsible for obtaining the required authorizations from their parents or legal guardians as informed in the Terms of Use of the platform. But we do not request or store any other information about the students besides the audio/transcript data, so we do not have a way to identify them.
Marketing and Selling
No Personal Information processed in M-Powering Teachers will be used to provide users with marketing or will be sold.
Sharing your Personal Information
Audio data may be transcribed or otherwise processed with the help of third-party service providers. We also only use services that are compliant with state/local privacy regulations as well as Stanford's regulations.
If the research team has an agreement with the user to retrieve, analyze and store the data for research purposes, the research team will ensure that their use of the data is compliant with Stanford IRB as well as Stanford privacy rules.
Data Storage and Retention
All data shared with M-Powering teachers will be stored in Amazon Web Services (AWS) secure cloud server. This is officially approved by Stanford University to store and process moderate and high risk data. Learn more about Stanford University's policy
Users may delete any data collected in the platform at any time. Once deleted by the user, the data retained in AWS is also deleted.

Updates to Notice
Stanford University reserves the right to modify this Notice at any time. If we make any material changes to this Notice, we will provide you notice on our Site and make it available at mpoweringteachers.stanford.edu. Where we are required by the applicable privacy laws, we will also seek your consent to any material changes that affect how we use your personal information.
Effective Date
The effective date of this Notice is March 25, 2024.
